Anniversary celebration: 100 years of the Burow-Gischow fire department and exciting competitions!
The Burow-Gischow Volunteer Fire Department had every reason to celebrate: its proud 100th anniversary will be celebrated on June 15, 2025. To properly honor this special anniversary, the fire brigades of the Eldenburg Lübz district gathered in Burow for an exciting competition. The head of the fire brigade, Danilo Urbutat, was pleased with the lively participation, especially from the youth fire brigades, who were an important part of these celebrations. Loud Northern Courier Four out of a total of 13 fire departments took part in the competition, supported by a guest team from Parchim.
The youth fire brigades competed in the relay race over 200 meters, where various obstacles had to be overcome. Here the young people from the community of Ruhner Berge demonstrated very special achievements, securing first place, followed by the teams from Kreien and Lübz. Such competitions are not just a sporting event, they also promote solidarity and teamwork among young people.
Adults and young people in competition
But it wasn't just the younger ones who made their big appearance. The adult participants also demonstrated their skills in disciplines such as knots and stitches, suction length domes and wet firefighting. Here the guests from Parchim were able to triumph and secure first place with an excellent time of 27.11 seconds. Gischow took second place with 27.84 seconds, while Werder came third with 29.51 seconds. The fire department from Werder was ultimately able to prevail in the overall ranking, closely followed by Burow-Gischow and another team from Lübz. It was a day full of excitement and joy, and a big thank you goes to all those who took part, especially the carers and helpers who helped organize the festival.
The fundamental work of the youth fire brigades is of great importance and has a long tradition that goes back to the 1960s. The establishment of a youth organization was decided on October 31, 1964 by the delegate meeting of the German Fire Brigade Association (DFV) in Berlin. This initiative was largely driven forward by Federal Youth Leader Paul Augustin and Secretary General Benno Ladwig. The youth fire brigade should not only impart firefighting knowledge, but also teach important values such as responsibility and team spirit Report on the history of the German youth fire brigade is impressively documented.
Innovation in firefighting sports
For the future, it is important to further improve communication and planning in firefighting sports. The project feusport.de aims to provide a better overview of competitions, dates and results in Germany. Not only traditional competitions are taken into account here, but also special events organized by youth fire departments. This ensures that the youth fire brigades are highly popular not only in a festive setting, but also in competitions.
Overall, the anniversary of the Burow-Gischow fire department shows how important working with young people in the fire department is. These young firefighters are not only the future of fire protection, but also a vibrant community that embodies fun, teamwork and responsibility. One can rightly say: the fire department can rely on these young people!
