Have a say in the citizen dialogue: Parchim is planning climate-friendly heat supply!
There is an important project on the agenda in the city of Parchim: On Thursday, July 3rd, the city administration is inviting people to a citizens' dialogue about future heat planning. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., citizens can ask their questions and contribute their ideas in the town hall's meeting room on the second floor, room 312. The aim of the event is to provide information about the current status of heat supply and to offer citizens opportunities to get involved. Again Northern Courier reports, the event begins with an introduction by the planning office seecon Ingenieure, which will present the first findings of the action plan.
In Germany, all cities must submit municipal heat planning by 2028, and Parchim is already actively involved. This planning is particularly important because heat supply accounts for over 50% of final energy consumption in Germany and contributes significantly to CO2 emissions. The large share of around 80% of heat demand is currently met by fossil fuels, highlighting the need for change. District heating currently claims a share of 14%, but is also mainly generated from fossil fuels. The Federal has now also created a legal basis to enable comprehensive heat planning, which will come into force on January 1, 2024.
Climate protection and citizen participation
The planned municipal heat planning includes a comprehensive analysis of the existing heat structures and the determination of potential for climate-friendly heat generation. By 2030, a target of at least 50% of heat demand from renewable energy sources should be achieved, with the aim of achieving a greenhouse gas-neutral heat supply by 2045. This information comes, among other things, from the city of Parchim, which is preparing to implement the “Law for Heat Planning and Decarbonization of Heat Networks” (WPG). Parchim emphasizes that citizens should be actively involved in this process. This will happen not only through the citizens' dialogue on July 3rd, but also through surveys via the official newsletter and the city's homepage.
The city has brought the planning office seecon Ingenieure from Leipzig on board, which is working on ambitious solutions together with Parchimer municipal utilities, energy suppliers, housing companies and authorities. Close cooperation is essential to ensure the technical feasibility and social compatibility of all measures. In order to actively involve citizens in the planning, they can register to take part in the dialogue by June 30th at the latest. If you have any questions, please contact the city planning team via email stadtplanning@parchim.de or by phone at 03871-71525.
Parchim is showing a good hand in implementing important climate goals and is relying on the support of the population. When it comes to the future of heat supply, there is a lot at stake. Make use of this opportunity to contribute your voice and work together with the city on a climate-friendly Parchim.
