Reopening in Rome: Zum Römer is fighting for timely completion!

A new chapter for the “Zum Römer” restaurant in Rome: The young manager Kai Neumann has set himself the goal of reopening the restaurant, which has been closed for around two years, in late summer. Although the opening date is still open, it is clear that some renovation work is needed in the kitchen, basement and interior. “I want our guests to feel comfortable with us,” emphasizes 21-year-old Neumann, who previously worked in the catering industry in Parchim.

Guests should be offered an all-round enjoyable experience. A cozy summer terrace will be created outside, while the restaurant will offer space for around 80 guests in two guest rooms. A room is particularly planned that is equipped with a projector screen and can be used for seminars and conferences. Advance planning for private celebrations in 2026 is already possible.

A traditional restaurant with history

The roots of the “Zum Römer” inn go back to 1834, when vineyard owner Joh. Daniel Hübler built it as “Hübler’s Restaurant”. After a renovation by Willy Lubwitz, who added a dance floor, it was renamed “Zum Römer”. The inn lived through dance evenings and light music until it was closed during the war. After several changes of ownership and a final closure in 1992, the building fell into disrepair until innkeeper Knut Klinge purchased and restored it in 2000. It was allowed to open its doors again in 2004, and a beer garden with large lime trees will be available to guests in the warm months.

The menu will include a selection of classic German dishes. From sour meat and zander to solyanka and game goulash – traditional cuisine still has its place at “Zum Römer”. The gastronomic offering is rounded off with a selection of delicious cakes and desserts.

A look at the gastronomy

The importance of gastronomy as an economic factor should not be underestimated. According to Statista, a large proportion of sales in the German hospitality industry come from food-based gastronomy. In 2022, a record turnover of over 67 billion euros was achieved in this sector. Eating out is a popular leisure activity, particularly among couples, young adults and families, while older age groups are less likely to visit restaurants. With around 61,500 restaurants and 35,500 snack bars in Germany, it shows how strongly gastronomy is rooted in society. The catering sector employs around 428,800 people in service and offers a wide range of training occupations, including that of cook, the most popular training occupation in this area.

“It’s important to have a good knack for the catering industry,” says Neumann. In this context, he is also looking for active support in the form of chefs who can be both trained and career changers. If you are interested, you can contact the restaurant directly using the contact details provided.

The reopening of the “Zum Römer” restaurant promises not only a return of a piece of regional history, but also a new destination for gourmets and partygoers in the area. This is an exciting development that will attract many eyes.
