Rostock leads the quality of life ranking in MV – these are the results!

There is a lively discussion about quality of life in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and the latest surveys are providing a breath of fresh air. A detailed resident survey, which took place between May 23rd and June 22nd, has now painted a picture of living conditions in the region. In total, those responsible counted 16,664 participants, of which 15,183 were from the focus region. As nordkurier.de reports, the city of Rostock performed best with a remarkable score of 7.33 on the scale of 10.

The other places include Northwest Mecklenburg with 7.17 and Western Pomerania-Rügen with 7.16 points. Overall, the survey resulted in an overall mean value of 6.95 for quality of life, which also revealed some of the population's concerns. Among these are the shortage of doctors, the inadequate shopping facilities and the dangers to cyclists, which put a strain on the well-being of citizens.

The best and worst categories

The evaluation highlights where things are good and where there is still room for improvement. The region received a 7.42 for cleanliness, and the leisure and animal areas also scored well with 6.96 points. The below-average categories, however, such as healthcare with only 4.82 and gastronomy with 4.59 points, show a significant need for improvement. The city of Rostock also triumphed in another ranking, coming in first with 6.35 points, followed by Schwerin and Uckermark, both with just 6.17 points.

An exciting aspect of the survey is the gender distribution: 57 percent of the participants were female and more than half were married. In addition to the general quality of life, 15 categories were also evaluated, which provide insights into the realities of life of citizens. The results therefore offer a comprehensive overview of the current living situation in the region.

European comparison and citizen dialogue

But that's not all. Rostock also actively participated in a European opinion poll, which surveyed more than 70,000 people in 83 cities in 36 countries. The city seems to be doing well here: rathaus.rostock.de highlights that Rostock has been part of the European city comparison “Urban Audit” since 2009, which is coordinated by EUROSTAT and collects comprehensive data on the quality of life in over 800 cities. This shows that Rostock is analyzed not only on a local but also on an international level.

A look at other current initiatives shows that the federal government is also actively addressing quality of life. As part of a citizen dialogue, the population was asked about their understanding of quality of life. Based on the results, an indicator system was developed that will henceforth serve as a benchmark for politics in Germany. This confirms the trend that the quality of life of citizens is increasingly becoming the focus and their needs guide political action. How these developments will affect Rostock and the surrounding area remains to be seen. What is clear, however, is that the voices of citizens do not go unheard and the city has already taken some steps towards a higher quality of life.
