AfD politician: Borders cannot completely stop illegal entries!

Recently, the topics of migration and border controls have again become the focus of public discussion. Last but not least, the visits by AfD politicians to the borders make it clear how much the issue influences the political landscape. At the German-Polish border crossing on the Left, politicians Enrico Komning, Jan-Phillip Tadsen and Nikolaus Kramer accompanied the Pasewalk Federal Police Station and experienced first-hand the challenges that officers face every day. It became clear that the problems in migration cannot only be traced back to the federal police, as [nordkurier.de](https://www.nordkurier.de/regional/mecklenburg-vorpommern/afd-politiker-nicht-alle-illegalen- Grenzuebertritte-koennen-verhindert- Werden-3685628) reports.

The AfD representatives expressed concern about the increasing smuggling crime, which, according to the federal smuggling crime situation report from 2023, has reached worrying proportions. The increase in illegal migration to Germany cannot be denied: over 7,900 relevant cases were registered in 2023, an increase of around 60 percent compared to the previous year. Germany has thus established itself as the main destination for migrants in the EU, as can be read on the website of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) (bka.de).

Challenges at the border

Border controls have been systematic and intensified since September 2024. In the first 140 days, over 22,000 unauthorized entries were detected. Of these, more than 13,000 people without the necessary documents had to be rejected or turned away. The number of smugglers arrested who want to bring people illegally to Germany in this way is also not insignificant. During the time of the controls, 518 smugglers were arrested alone (tagesschau.de).

However, in Enrico Komning's eyes, the main problems lie with the political decision-makers in Berlin, who, in his opinion, do not sufficiently support the necessary measures to combat illegal migration. The AfD's party political demands include the elimination of pull factors for migration, a reduction of social benefits to benefits in kind and the end of family reunification for those in need of secondary protection. There is also a demand for the consistent application of criminal law in order to take preventive action against the violations and to reintroduce an asylum right exclusively as a law on a case-by-case basis ([nordkurier.de](https://www.nordkurier.de/regional/mecklenburg-vorpommern/afd-politiker-nicht-alle-illegalen- Grenzuebertritte-koennen-verhindert- Werden-3685628)).

Dealing with smuggling crime

Smuggling crime is not only a challenge for Germany, but also for the entire European community. Increasingly risky methods and means of communication are used during infiltration. Messenger services and social media in particular are used to reach potential migrants and promote illegal crossings. Recruitment often takes place via attractive short videos (bka.de).

The topic remains complicated and emotionally charged. No matter what political measures are taken, the challenges at the borders and the problems associated with them will continue to concern us. In the current discussion, one thing is clear: the social and political responses to the challenges of migration must urgently come into focus.
