Fire devil at work? Car tire fire near A20 shocks residents!

On Friday afternoon, June 22, 2025, the fire departments from Papendorf, Brietzig and Pasewalk were alerted to fight a fire at the entrance to Autobahn 20. At around 4:15 p.m., the emergency services discovered that eight car tires were ablaze near the bus turning point, presumably intentionally dumped there. Around 30 firefighters were on site and fought the flames for about an hour. The cause of the fire raises serious suspicions of arson, particularly in view of a previous incident in the area in which a large pile of wood measuring approximately 20 by 20 meters, also presumably intentionally set on fire, burned. This pile of wood was near an empty house, making the situation even more dangerous.

The statistics on arson in Germany show that such incidents are unfortunately not isolated. According to information from Federal Criminal Police Office The number of arson cases recorded by the police rose continuously between 2014 and 2024. What is particularly worrying is that the number of such crimes has been increasing in recent years. A sad trend that also affects the feeling of security in the affected communities.

Causes and consequences of arson

Arson is not only a crime, but also causes significant economic damage. According to one IFS study Millions of euros are destroyed every year due to such incidents. The causes are diverse and range from pyrotechnic games to criminal acts. The risks to public safety and the environment are enormous, which is why preventative measures and a watchful eye on the part of citizens are required.

In Papendorf and the surrounding area, the signs are on alert. The fire brigades are well prepared, but have had to be deployed repeatedly in recent weeks due to similar incidents. Every minute counts when it comes to putting out fires and possibly preventing something worse from happening. During their last deployment, the emergency services showed that quick reactions and good communication within the team are crucial to avert such dangers and protect the population.
