Literature encounter in the manor house: focus on mother-daughter topics!
Next Wednesday, December 10th, the Ramin manor house will be transformed into a place for literary encounters. From 5 p.m., the women's café “VISIONata” and the two authors Brygida Helbig and Justyna Helbig invite you to a reading of their joint work “In the Name of the Mother and the Daughter”. The book, which is written and interpreted in Polish, will address the relationships between mothers and daughters in the context of migration, identity and cultural uprooting.
The event, which offers a deep insight into the challenges faced by migrant women and their children, highlights the societal expectations and biographical influences that exist across generations. The authors come from different backgrounds: Brygida Helbig, born in Stettin, is a professor and writer and now lives in Berlin. Your colleague Justyna Helbig, who grew up in the Ruhr area, is a psychologist and coach. She made her literary debut in 2006 with “Anders als alles”, for which she received a prize in Switzerland.
Insights into the book
The novel is about two protagonists who struggle with inner tensions and try to find their own way. The dialogues are “clever and humorous” and address important aspects such as closeness, conflict and reconciliation. The reading promises not only the presentation of these moving stories, but also an evening full of exchange and discussion on the topics of migration and identity.
The reading will be moderated by Monika Szymanik, the owner of the bookstore “Kamienica w lesie”. Visitors are warmly invited to actively ask questions about the topics discussed. The event is offered free of charge, but you are asked to register in advance via email to [email protected].
A cultural contribution
The reading is part of a larger initiative that deals with the lives of women and the challenges they face in a new home. Similar events in the past, such as the reading moderated by Natalia Prufer, a Berlin theater and literary scholar, show that such evenings of exchange are very popular and create an important platform for dialogue.
The event is sponsored by the city of Freiburg and Polregio e.V., which advocates for the interests of the Polish community in Berlin. An evening that is both literary and emotionally enriching – there is definitely something there!
