Sturmchaos in Western Pomerania: Fire brigades in continuous use in the event of storms!

Pasewalk, Deutschland - A violent storm hit the Uecker-Randow region on Monday and Tuesday and demanded the fire brigade to the maximum. In Vorpommern-Greifswald, the emergency services had to deploy a total of 34 missions to remove fallen trees, broken branches and crashed objects. The areas of Pasewalk, Löcknitz-Penkun and Gützkow-Pölschow, where 29 missions were recorded alone, were particularly affected. Fortunately, there have been greater damage so far.

As usual with the last thunderstorm, there were also smaller forest and meadow fires, which, however, could be quickly deleted thanks to the fast reactions of the fire brigades from Züsedom, Damerow and Rollwitz. A tree fell on a power line, but only had a minimum effect on the power supply.

rail operations severely impaired

rail traffic was also affected: travelers in the regional express 3 between Berlin, Pasewalk and Stralsund had to expect failures of the power supply and trees on the tracks. It became particularly uncomfortable for a school class whose teachers tried to contact the parents when the train removed without notice. After three and a half hours without refreshments, the travelers finally received water bottles from train employees.

"Usually the situation is not that chaotic for us here," summed up a member of the railway after the incident. But in view of the previous weather extreme, this is not surprising. For some time now, scientists and organizations such as Greenpeace have been warning that the man -made climate crisis increasingly affects the weather. The earth gets warmer, oceans record records and the associated energy in the global weather system leads to more violent storms, heavy rain and other extreme weather events, as can be found in a current report by Greenpeace.

effects on agriculture

The current weather conditions for agriculture is also of great importance. The agricultural meteorology department has an eye on the hazards due to the ongoing heat test. The overall heat content of the air (enthalpy) is closely monitored in order to avoid dangerous conditions in stables. At the latest at temperatures above 25 ° C, the use of plant protection products containing clomazone is no longer allowed, which makes the planned treatment of areas difficult.

Furthermore, there have been reports of light ground frost conditions from the past few weeks, which can also influence the work in agriculture. A daily update of this relevant information takes place from May to September on the Agrowetter.de website to well informed farmers.

Although the weather situation in Western Pomerania is supposed to calm down by Thursday, there is a certain imponderability, since thunderstorms are still possible. The temperatures should be between 22 and 27 degrees and a moderate to fresh wind with local gusts of wind during the thunderstorm is expected. The continuing uncertainty in relation to the weather conditions makes it clear that we not only manage the current situation, but also have to develop a long -term strategy for climate protection in order to alleviate future weather extremes.

The challenges are huge, but with a good hand and a watchful eye, people in the region can certainly master these capsoles.
