Ferry chaos in Rostock: seven hours delay for travelers!
Last Saturday, ferry passengers between Rostock and Denmark experienced a long waiting time of seven hours. The reason for this was an accident on the ferry “Berlin”, which could not be opened and had to return to Rostock. However, quick repairs meant that the ferry was soon back on the usual schedule in order to maintain the connection between Rostock and Gedser. This ferry line, which is the oldest connection from Germany to Scandinavia, is operated by the shipping company Scandlines and allows up to 10 departures every day every 2 hours, with a journey time of around 1:45 to 2:00 hours. The route leads over 48 kilometers into the Mecklenburg Bay and Kadetrinne in the Baltic Sea and has a long history that dates back to 1886, when the mail steamer connection between Warnemünde and Gedser was opened.
But it's not just the ferry connection that's a topic of conversation in Rostock. Two building plots in the city are currently for sale, which have remained unused despite years of searching for investors. One of the properties is located below the Petrikirche, while the other is on Ernst-Barlach-Straße. For the latter, the tender ends in mid-July, while the deadline for the property on Petritor has already expired. Interest in the real estate market could increase again in the coming period if investors can be found.
News from Rostock's gastronomy
Another shock for Rostock city center: The popular restaurant “Liberty Delis” has unexpectedly closed. The reasons for this decision are currently unknown and raise questions as to whether other restaurants in the region could suffer similar fates.
In addition, KTV will be without its popular “Monday Balcony” this year. This free concert and theater series, which has attracted up to 1,000 visitors per week since 2018, has to be canceled due to a rejected funding application. This news hit many people interested in culture in the city hard, as the Monday Balcony was always a popular meeting place for young and old.
A small wish of the heart comes true
A touching story comes from Rostock's Iga Park: 8-year-old Milo had the opportunity to meet the singer Lea before her concert. This moment helped him overcome his fear of crowds and will certainly remain an unforgettable experience for the boy.
However, there is good news for music lovers: after the performances by Lea and Johannes Oerding, Fury in the Slaughterhouse will be on stage in Rostock on Friday. The band promises to captivate the audience with their hits and heat up the atmosphere in Iga Park.
With all of this news, Rostock shows its diverse side. From ferry connections known far beyond the city limits to impressive cultural events, Rostock remains a city worth exploring - despite the small setbacks and challenges that everyday life sometimes brings.
