A maritime highlight is imminent: The shark cutter regatta, which takes place every year on the day before the Hanse Sail, will once again bring a lot of momentum to the old sails this year. Strictly speaking, this traditional event will take place in August, when the historic shark cutters make their way from Nysted to Rostock. eagerly awaited, the starting signal for the regatta will be given on August 6, 2025.
This year, six magnificent shark cutters will take part in the regatta, including the well-known “Hansine”, a real gem in the Lübeck museum harbor. The impressive ship has a long history, having been extensively reconstructed over 20 years ago by Markus Köhler and a partner. The purchase took place in Denmark for just one symbolic euro, making the “Hansine” one of the largest and fastest shark cutters – a ship that is 125 years old and 25 meters long!
The historical charm of the shark cutters
Anyone wondering what is special about the shark cutters will quickly find what they are looking for: These Danish fishing vessels were in use around 1900 and were once part of the Danish fleet like the famous hopes of the fishermen. As one of the first ships with a propulsion engine, the “Hansine” contributed to the modernization of the maritime industry in 1898.
The regatta traditionally starts on August 6, 2025 and lasts around six hours. The spectacle is accompanied by the ships LANDRATH KÜSTER and SARPEN, which also offer places for fellow sailors. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to experience the adventure on the water first hand.
