New pitch in Wittenförden: A piece of World Cup history returns!

There is an exciting reason to be happy in Wittenförden: the sports field has been extensively renovated and will soon shine in new splendor. What is particularly noteworthy is that the new turf consists of the same grass mixture as that used during the 2006 World Cup in Germany. The redesign was necessary because the old playing area was more like a smooth field with a considerable slope of around 80 centimeters.

The entire area was cleared and graded before the special grass seed was planted. Now the new grasses need at least six months to be thick enough for the first markings to be applied. The club hopes to begin the Football Foxes' first home tournaments in September, although everything depends on the weather conditions.

Strong in the youth sector

This new sports field will not only benefit the active players, but also the club's entire youth section, which includes more than 60 children between the ages of four and ten. Better training conditions are an important step in promoting young talent. The Football Association has also required clubs to have suitable pitches to host tournaments, which is now possible with the new pitch.

The financing of the project is also noteworthy. 50,000 euros from the Ministry of Agriculture's citizens' fund and around 15,000 euros in own funds were made available for the renovation. The community also provides the club with necessary equipment, such as a water truck. Mayor Matthias Eberhardt is convinced that this investment is well invested and will raise the local level of sports.

World Cup flair in a new design

The 2006 World Cup, which took place from June 9th to July 9th, will be remembered as one of the most emotional tournaments in football history. Under the motto “The world is a guest of friends”, Germany became the venue for 32 national teams who played for the title. Italy triumphed in the final against France on penalties to win their fourth title. Germany, on the other hand, finished the tournament in third place and Miroslav Klose set a new record with five goals when he was crowned top scorer.

The tournament spanned a variety of stadiums, with crowd numbers impressive. The opening game alone was watched by 22.4 million viewers. Thanks to such events, it turned out that pride in Germany grew and the positive image of the country abroad was also lastingly shaped. The World Cup had major economic effects, as did various changes to the rules of the game that made the game fairer.

Sustainability is also becoming increasingly important in modern football, and that is why the DFB relies on the correct handling of sports fields. Tips for environmentally friendly care of sports facilities are just as important as the discussion about the use of plastic granules on artificial turf. This not only extends the lifespan of the pitches, but also protects the environment.

Overall, the renovation of the Wittenförden sports field is a step in the right direction. Not only is football history kept alive here, but a new generation of players is also challenged and supported. The anticipation for the upcoming tournaments is increasing and the hope for a thick, green lawn that also stands for future success remains.
