Schwerin police beat thieves: expensive Pedelecs seized!

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, the police in Schwerin managed to seize several stolen two-wheelers. Thanks to attentive citizens and quick investigative work, two Pedelecs and a moped were found. The search successes come from an eventful weekend in which the officers once again demonstrated their skills in combating thefts. Schwerin local reports a total of three suspects, although in two cases the identities have already been clarified. In another case, the investigation is still ongoing.

How did the crimes come about? On the night of Saturday to Sunday, a Pedelec worth around 1,800 euros was stolen in Schwerin's Weststadt. An attentive witness saw the bike at Marienplatz and immediately informed the police. It didn't take long for them to arrive and they were able to seize the bike together with a suspected companion. Interesting: The suspected thief had repainted the frame and wheels, but thanks to the comparison of the frame number, the Pedelec was quickly identified. The companion was also carrying another Pedelec that had been reported stolen in Lower Saxony. Both two-wheelers were seized and the suspects, two German citizens, were temporarily arrested.

Another theft event

Another incident occurred in the Großer Dreesch district, where a “Simson” moped was stolen. Here, too, an attentive citizen took care of the matter and informed the police about an abandoned vehicle in the bushes near Crivitzer Chaussee. Thanks to the unique features, the police were able to identify the moped as the one that had previously been stolen and then return it to the rightful owner. The investigation into the unknown perpetrator is being continued by the Schwerin Criminal Police Office.

Prevention is the be-all and end-all

Such incidents illustrate how important it is to secure two-wheelers well. According to the Police advice page There are a variety of ways to prevent theft. These include, among other things, sturdy U-locks or armored cable locks as well as the installation of immobilizers or anti-theft alarm systems on motorcycles. If you want to protect your bike particularly well, you can also use GPS trackers, which alert the owner if the bike moves and transmit the location.

It is particularly advisable for owners of high-quality e-bikes or bicycles to take out special bicycle insurance. In contrast to classic household contents insurance, this offers more comprehensive risks and often rewards higher amounts in the event of theft. As the GDV statistics shows, such insurance is particularly worthwhile if you regularly rely on your two-wheeler.
