Schwerin cyclists on a 1,400 km tour to Finland: message with them!
On July 5, 2025, seven cyclists from Schwerin set off to begin their journey to the Finnish twin city of Vaasa. The group, consisting of five men and two women, starts at Bertha-Klingberg-Platz, accompanied by applause and the best wishes from the local population. Your tour covers an impressive 1,400 kilometers and takes you through Sweden, with a stop in Växjö also planned. This campaign is organized by the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) and led by Roberto Koschmidder. Support comes from the city and the Sparkasse Foundation, which not only organizes the accommodation but also provides two night ferries to Sweden and Finland.
The cyclists bring a message from Mayor Rico Badenschier (SPD) to Vaasa. Badenschier wrote two letters for participants, emphasizing the importance of community partnerships, especially in light of current border controls in Europe. On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the partnership between Schwerin and Vaasa, which will be celebrated in 2025, the participants hope to strengthen the connection between the two cities.
A tour with a fixed framework
The entire journey is divided into 17 stages, at a comfortable pace and with regular breaks to maximize enjoyment of the scenery. During the tour, overnight stays in hotels are on the program so that the cyclists can relax well every evening. The return journey has also already been organized: This takes the ferry from Vaasa back to Travemünde. Anyone interested in being part of this exciting bicycle trip can register directly with the ADFC, whereby a deposit of 300 euros is required. The registration deadline is March 14, 2025.
Ralf Klein, the chairman of the ADFC Schwerin regional group, has to stay at home for health reasons despite his anticipation of taking part this year. But he is firmly planning to be active again in 2026. His tireless commitment to cycling and the promotion of cycle tours remains an important cause.
Cycling trips are trending
The current developments in cycle tourism show a positive trend: the ADFC expects a further increase in the number of participants for the cycle holiday year 2025. This is also underlined by the publication of the latest edition of the magazine “Discover Germany by Bike”. This issue presents various routes and regions in Germany that are of interest to cyclists. The ADFC, as the largest advocacy group for cyclists in Germany, relies on the crisis-proof nature of cycling trips that are not only healthy but also environmentally friendly.
The new issue of the magazine not only contains many useful tips for planning cycling trips, but also a practical checklist. With more and more excellent cycle routes – a total of 47 ADFC quality cycle routes and six ADFC cycle travel regions – it is becoming easier for cyclists to find attractive and high-quality routes. Even tourism providers have invested more in quality and variety in recent years, which is further increasing the popularity of cycling holidays.
Cyclists from Schwerin who came on July 5th have an exciting and important journey ahead of them. With every pedal stroke you make a valuable contribution to promoting cycling culture and strengthening interpersonal relationships across borders. The cyclists and the ADFC welcome everyone who would like to share this path with them.
