Violent argument in Stralsund: 41-year-old seriously injured!
In Stralsund, more precisely on Lion-Feuchtwanger-Straße, there was a violent physical altercation in an apartment on Saturday evening, October 11, 2025, around 7:30 p.m. The Vorpommern-Rügen rescue control center immediately received a report of the incident and dispatched the emergency services and three police patrol cars from the Stralsund police headquarters. On site, the emergency services encountered several heavily intoxicated people who were German citizens between the ages of 33 and 56. A 41-year-old man sustained injuries that required hospitalization at the Stralsund Clinic. The investigation to clarify the background to the altercation was taken over by the Stralsund criminal investigation service, as Bild reports.
The exact circumstances of the dispute are still unclear, but the fact that an injured person had to be hospitalized raises questions. Arguments and acts of violence in private spaces are not uncommon in Germany, and recent statistics show that violent crime is a worrying issue among the population. According to Statista, they account for less than 4% of all crimes recorded by the police, but they have a significant impact on people's sense of security.
A look at violent crime in Germany
Last year, around 217,000 violent crimes were registered in Germany, which was the highest number since 2007. This is particularly noticeable because the numbers initially fell from 2017 and reached a low point during the corona pandemic. Since 2021, however, the number of violent crimes has been rising again and is now almost a third above its low point. As Presseportal notes, an increase in violent crime is often linked to social and economic insecurities.
Particularly worrying is the increase in violence against emergency workers, which reached a peak of around 2,740 violent acts in 2023. This aggression is often exacerbated by alcohol or drugs as well as previous mental illnesses. According to a survey in May 2024, 94% of Germans consider violence against police and emergency services employees to be a major problem. These trends pose a serious challenge for both society and authorities.
The police are now continuing to investigate the exact background to the altercation in Stralsund, while investigators are trying to shed light on the matter. It is to be hoped that such incidents will become less frequent in the future and that better mutual understanding will help prevent violence in any form.
