Police hunt burglars: Wismar and Boltenhagen in their sights!
The police in Wismar are currently active in two cases of burglary. On Sunday night there was a break-in at a clothing store in Boltenhagen, while offices in Wismar were broken into on the same weekend. Both incidents were accompanied by significant property damage, each amounting to around 500 euros. But what exactly happened?
In the first case, which occurred in Boltenhagen, unknown perpetrators violently broke into a shop on the central promenade. The crime took place around 2:00 a.m. and the criminal police are now investigating particularly serious theft. Despite an immediate search in the area, which was unsuccessful, there is currently no information available about the burglars' loot. In this context, the police are asking witnesses who have noticed suspicious people or vehicles to contact the Grevesmühlen police on 03881 720-0, as presseportal.de reports.
Burglary in Wismar
A second incident in Wismar took place between Saturday lunchtime and Sunday lunchtime. Office space on Ulmenstrasse was broken up. Here too, it remains unclear whether and what was stolen. The police have also initiated an investigation in this case and are calling on witnesses to report information on 03841 203-0. This break-in also resulted in property damage of around 500 euros - a sum that seems even more pressing given the uncertainty surrounding the theft.
A look at the crime statistics shows that burglary is a serious problem in Germany. According to Statista, there were around 119,000 burglaries in 2023, the highest number since 2019. This shows the worrying trend that has increased especially after the lockdowns during the pandemic. The risk of break-ins is particularly higher in urban areas, while rural areas are often less affected.
Whether alarm systems, behavioral prevention or neighborhood watch – the police know that education and prevention are crucial in the fight against burglaries. The clearance rate for residential burglaries was only 14.9% in 2023. This highlights the importance of citizens staying vigilant and supporting each other to ensure safety in their neighborhoods.
The incidents in Boltenhagen and Wismar remind us that caution is also required in our region. The police encourage everyone to report any irregularities and to keep an eye on their neighbors. Only together can the crime rate be reduced and a safe living environment created.
