Sweden Festival in Wismar: Parking, toilets and safety in mind!
On Thursday, August 14th, things will be happening again in Wismar, as the popular Swedish festival opens its doors. The Hanseatic city awaits its guests until August 17th with a colorful program that attracts both locals and tourists from all over the world. Hanse reports on an event that is not only a celebration of the 155th anniversary of Wismar's membership of the Kingdom of Sweden, but is also considered the largest Swedish festival outside of Sweden.
The festival extends from the market square to the Old Port, where the medieval military camp in the main square can be viewed. Here, members of the Wismar shooting club and Swedish military history clubs re-enact historical battles. The Old Harbor creates a fair feeling with handicrafts, culinary delights and rides that invite you to feast and marvel.
Traffic and parking options
Anyone planning to visit the Sweden Festival should pay attention to the recommended travel options. Ostsee Zeitung recommends using public transport, as there will be numerous traffic restrictions during the festival. Parking spaces are available around the city center, including at the Old Port, at Schiffbauerdamm and in a parking garage next to the market hall.
It is important to note the closures of traffic areas in the city center. The market square, which serves as the core area of the event, as well as the routes of the “Sweden Run” and “Sweden Trail” will be temporarily closed. Cycling in the pedestrian zone is prohibited from August 11th to 18th. A replacement stop for the city tour departure of the convertible double-decker buses will also be set up to facilitate visitor access.
Rules and safety instructions
The attentive security and order staff will ensure a smooth and safe festival and will carry out checks on the market square and at the Old Harbor. Bringing glass bottles and dangerous objects such as knives is not permitted in the event area. In addition, from 5 p.m. the drinks will only be served in deposit glasses to ensure the safety of everyone present.
To ensure safety, paramedics and emergency doctors are present at various locations, including the tree house, the Old Harbor and the market square. In order to meet the needs of visitors, additional public toilets will be installed, including at the tree house and on the corner of Markt Mecklenburger Straße.
The Sweden Festival in Wismar promises to be an experience for all the senses. Visit the city and let yourself be carried away by the lively atmosphere and the many attractions. Remember to arrange parking and a safe journey in good time.
