Simone and Teddy: A creative duo fights cancer!
In a small town like Wismar there are stories that encourage and inspire. One such story is told by Simone Busack, who faces a challenge that many fear: cancer. Today the 38-year-old from Wismar suffers from breast cancer, also known as “Bommel”, and is in the middle of her chemotherapy. Despite this difficult time, she decided to overcome her struggle with humor and creativity.
Simone, who has lived in Wismar for 18 years, led a life as a sales representative before taking the leap to becoming an artist. Her passion for painting has not only inspired her to be creative, but also to give joy to other people through painting workshops and children's birthday parties in her studio. Her four-year-old royal poodle, Teddy, is always at her side and not only lifts her spirits, but also makes many smile as he has mastered over 40 tricks - including bringing Simone's red wig.
Art as medicine
Simone's strong connection to art is highlighted by the positive impact of creativity on cancer patients. Art therapy, as Curado reports, can help process feelings such as fear, anger and hope. Many people find a more natural access to their emotions when painting. As the example of a patient with brain tumor shows, painting can be a liberating experience and a valuable support in coping with the disease.
These approaches also apply to Simone’s life. Not only does she express her experiences and feelings in cartoons, but she also finds solace in her artistic work. With her pictures she wants to show others that you can find joy in life even in difficult times and that coming to terms with your illness is an important part of healing.
Coping with everyday life
Simone has had cancer twice before: first four years ago, when she was diagnosed with skin cancer, and just last year, uterine cancer followed. Her ability to self-discover her illnesses highlights the importance of body awareness, which is why she encourages others to listen to their bodies. Her positive attitude despite these setbacks is contagious.
But the situation is not easy. Her sister suffers from liver cancer, which puts additional strain on Simone - especially since she cannot travel to see her at the moment due to her own chemotherapy. These challenges are part of the emotional roller coaster that many cancer patients experience. As The Cancer Portal explains, joy and sadness can go hand in hand, which is why personal processing of illness is unique for everyone.
Simone has a clear message: Despite the dark thoughts and fears that can arise during the cancer diagnosis phase, it is important not to live life just around the disease. Her studio, the proximity to nature and the moments shared with Teddy are parts of her life that she doesn't want to miss.
