A magnificent harbor festival is currently being celebrated in Wismar from June 12th to 15th, transforming the city into a colorful festival location. In bright sunshine and pleasant temperatures, thousands of visitors flock to the historic quay edges to experience a weekend full of maritime highlights. The Hafenfest Wismar promises not only exciting attractions, but also cultural performances and an atmospheric ambience.
The nostalgic Ferris wheel that rotates at the heart of the festival is particularly eye-catching. The well-occupied gondolas offer passengers a unique view of the city and the harbor. In addition, some visitors, like Sven Peters from Rostock, take souvenir photos so they can enjoy the impressive Disney cruise ship “Disney Adventure” up close. Unfortunately, it is not possible to view the ship itself as it is currently waiting for the final details in the equipment quay at the Meyer shipyard.
Maritime flair and exciting attractions
The harbor festival offers a variety of attractions. There are a variety of ships on the water and on land, including the impressive lightship “Elbe 1”. Once a key to navigation, this floating museum is now open to visitors. The “Elbe 1”, commissioned in 1948, is the largest lightship in the world and a real attraction for history lovers.
You can enjoy regional food and drinks in the stalls at the harbor. Shanty choirs and DJ performances provide musical entertainment on three stages while the air vibrates with joy and excitement. In addition to the traditional performances, dragon boat races and an exciting barrel regatta are also part of the colorful program that delights the whole family.
A look into the future – The Disney cruise ship
The “Disney Adventure”, which undocked from the shipyard hall on April 20, 2025, is also causing a sensation. The ship is 342 meters long and over 70 meters high and will embark on its maiden voyage from Singapore after completion in December. With a capacity of 6,000 passengers and 2,300 crew members, the “Disney Adventure” will be a highlight of the international cruise market. The hull, decorated with Disney motifs and the iconic Mickey Mouse image, was presented to the public and has already won many hearts. Mayor Thomas Beyer and Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig describe this moment as a “day of pride” for Wismar.
