Complete closure of Zierower Landstrasse: Wismar is planning major renovations!

There will be significant traffic disruptions in Wismar from August 18, 2025. Zierower Landstraße will be completely closed for around a year, probably until August 31, 2026. The reason for the complete closure is extensive road construction work that will serve to renovate and modernize this important section of road. These measures affect a section of around 900 meters - from the roundabout to the exit of the town in the direction of Zierow.

The northern part in particular, around 600 meters, will be completely renovated. Not only will the road surface be provided with fresh asphalt, but all supply lines such as water and gas pipes, power cables and broadband cables will also be re-laid. Another section of around 300 meters will only receive a new road surface.

Accompanying modernizations

The renovation work is estimated to cost around 4.5 million euros and aims to adapt the city's infrastructure to future requirements. This also includes a comprehensive modernization of the street lighting along Zierower Landstrasse and the installation of a new traffic light system. These measures are intended to increase road safety and ensure that street lighting remains up-to-date.

The city administration of Wismar has announced that it will work closely with the responsible construction companies. This is intended to help stick to the schedule and keep disruption to residents and road users as low as possible.

Long-term planning

Completion of all work, including lighting and traffic light upgrades, is scheduled for 2028. This foresight shows that the city of Wismar not only has short-term solutions in mind, but is also thinking about future developments.

The full closure will certainly bring with it some challenges, but the measures promise to significantly improve the transport infrastructure in Wismar. For further information you can refer to the article by Wismar FM and read how such projects usually develop at Redfin and Undetect AI.
