Tenth MidsummerSail: 80 boats start in Wismar to the Baltic Sea Challenge!

In a few days, a maritime tradition will continue in a few days in the idyllic Wismar Bay, which not only makes the heart of the sailors beat faster. On June 20, 2025, the starting signal for the tenth edition of the MidsummerSail, one of the most demanding sailing races on the Baltic Sea. Over 900 nautical miles, that is around 1,670 kilometers, the participants from Germany to Törenhamn in Sweden are going. In recent years, the regatta has developed into a popular event that attracts hobby sailors from several countries. According to NDR are about 80 boats from Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands at the start.

What makes the Midsummerail so special? In addition to the breathtaking backdrop of the Baltic Sea, the regatta offers favorable conditions for the participants, since the tides are low compared to other racing areas and the days are almost around the clock. The target time for the boats is until July 5, 2025, whereby the average racing period fluctuates between 7 and 8 days.

The Midsummer Sail has only been held since 2016, and the numbers speak a clear language: With an initial participation of only one yacht, the event has continued to develop steadily. 44 yachts already took part in 2021. The regatta is carried out independently and self -organized, which makes it a unique experience for all those who love speed and adventure. The participants sail not only for victory, but also to undercut the impressive record time, which was set up by yacht red (Class 40) in 2022 with 4 days, 19 hours, 7 minutes and 46 seconds. A nice incentive for everyone who likes to sail for fast times!

For everyone who not only watches, but also looking for the sailing adventure, there are also offers for individual sailing trips. The platform Sailing with friends since 2010 has been organizing relaxed sailing trips in the Baltic Sea, especially in the Danish South Pacific. Here, participants have the opportunity to actively participate in setting sails and trimming or even taking the tax themselves. The focus is particularly popular with small crews of 3-4 people who ensure a personal sailing experience.
