Tenth Midsummersail: 80 boats start the Baltic Sea Challenge in Wismar!

In just a few days, a maritime tradition will be continued in the idyllic Wismar Bay, which will not only make the hearts of sailors beat faster. On June 20, 2025, the starting signal will be fired for the tenth edition of the Midsummersail, one of the most demanding sailing races on the Baltic Sea. The participants travel over 900 nautical miles, or around 1,670 kilometers, from Germany to Törehamn in Sweden. The regatta has become a popular event in recent years, attracting amateur sailors from several countries. Loud NDR There are around 80 boats from Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands at the start.

What makes Midsummersail so special? In addition to the breathtaking backdrop of the Baltic Sea, the regatta offers favorable conditions for participants as the tides are low compared to other racing areas and the days are light almost around the clock. The target time for the boats is July 5, 2025, with the average race duration varying between 7 and 8 days.

Regatta with history

The Midsummersail has only been held since 2016, and the numbers speak for themselves: with an initial participation of just one yacht, the event has steadily developed. In 2021, 44 yachts already took part. The regatta is run independently and self-organized, making it a unique experience for those who love speed and adventure. Participants are sailing not only to win, but also to beat the impressive record time set in 2022 of 4 days, 19 hours, 7 minutes and 46 seconds by the yacht RED (Class 40). A nice incentive for everyone who likes to sail for fast times!

The list of participant and finish times shows the impressive development of the race:
