Mega cruise ship Disney Adventure”: Wismar in a state of emergency!
There is currently a lot of activity in the shipyard in Wismar on the Baltic Sea. Up to 4,000 workers are working there to complete the impressive cruise ship “Disney Adventure”. With a capacity of around 6,700 passengers and 2,500 crew members, the ship will become a new attraction on the world's oceans and represents an important project for the region. Originally planned as a “Global Dream” for the Genting Group, the ship was acquired in shell condition by Disney in 2022 for almost 30 million euros after the Genting Group filed for bankruptcy. The Meyer Werft shipyard has taken over the completion contract and is working hard to complete the ship by December 2023. Moin.de reports that the ship will set standards in the cruise industry with its impressive dimensions of 342 meters long and 46 meters wide.
Interesting detail: “Disney Adventure” will not only have a roller coaster on deck, but will also offer numerous other attractions. The ship will come to life with many well-known Disney characters, making it an experience for the whole family. On August 30, 2023, it will leave the port of Wismar for Rügen. A stopover in Mukran is planned to store diesel and minimize the draft.
Technical check and further stops
After the stopover on Rügen, a week of technical tests are planned during the test trip in the Baltic Sea. “Disney Adventure” will then travel on to Bremerhaven to carry out further work there. The crew will then stop in the Netherlands in September 2023. As Spiegel.de reports, the ship's final outfitting will take place in Bremerhaven before the journey continues towards Singapore on October 6, 2023.
A look into the future
The Disney Adventure's maiden voyage is scheduled for December 2023, and all eyes are on this impressive ship. With state-of-the-art technology and a concept focused on families and entertainment, it is sure to usher in a new era in cruising. Meyer Werft plays a central role in this and shows once again that it has a good hand at implementing such mega projects. It will therefore be interesting to see how the ship will perform on the market.
