E-scooters in use: Wiesmoors fire department relies on new technology!
The Wiesmoor volunteer fire department in the Aurich district has introduced an innovative vehicle for its operations since the beginning of 2025: e-scooter. These bright red and neon yellow scooter-like vehicles bring a breath of fresh air to firefighting work and ensure faster response to emergencies. They are particularly worthwhile when searching for people and checking hose routes.
With an impressive speed of up to 22 km/h and a battery life of up to three hours, the e-scooters are not only fast, but also extremely practical. Around 1,300 euros were invested per e-scooter, with the fire department wrapping and equipping two robust models themselves, which are not commercially available. This individual adaptation could prove to be a good idea, as the e-scooters have been optimized specifically for their area of use.
Increased efficiency in operations
The e-scooters are transported in the cargo area of the hose cart and are all-terrain, which makes them particularly useful when it is important to move quickly. Operations managers use them regularly to quickly get an overview of the situation. It has been shown that the e-scooters are used every two to three weeks, which significantly increases the fire department's efficiency.
The Wiesmoor Volunteer Fire Department is currently testing the e-scooters for a year and is observing the advantages and integration of the e-scooters into the fire service. This innovation is a novelty in Lower Saxony and could be an example for other fire departments. It will be interesting to see what conclusions will be drawn from this test phase and whether this environmentally friendly form of transport will become a model. The future of the fire service could appear in a completely new light.
Overall, the introduction of e-scooters represents a successful mix of the latest technology and traditional fire service work. This shows once again that innovative solutions can also find their place in rescue services.
