Early on Saturday morning, October 13, 2025, there was a dramatic fire brigade operation on Abraham-Wolffs-Straße in Sandhorst. A car was on fire and there was an acute risk that the fire could spread to adjacent garages. The fire departments from Sandhorst and Aurich were quickly on the scene and provided valuable help. The situation was quickly brought under control.
When the first emergency services arrived, most of the burning vehicle had already caught fire, while the adjacent hedge was also affected. Two teams immediately went to extinguish the fire using respiratory protection. Thanks to a sophisticated bolt position that contained the flames, it was successfully prevented from spreading to the garage complex. This shows once again how important quick action and a well-coordinated deployment strategy are.
Coordinated deployment of rescue forces
A total of around 25 emergency services, including firefighters, the rescue service, the police as well as the German Red Cross and the Lower Water Authority, were on site. Once again, comprehensive cooperation between the various aid services is proving to be crucial in preventing anything worse from happening. The operation was extremely efficient and the fire was under control within a few minutes.
To fight the fire, the emergency services used water as well as foam to smother the flames. Two thermal imaging cameras were also used, which helped the emergency services identify hidden embers. These technical tools show how modern equipment can increase the efficiency of firefighting.
Unfortunately, the car could not be saved in this incident as it was completely destroyed by the fire. Fortunately, the adjacent building complex remained undamaged. The cause of the fire is still unclear and is currently being investigated by the relevant authorities.
The quick reaction of the fire departments from Sandhorst and Aurich prevented anything worse from happening that morning. Given the danger and fast-moving nature of fires in urban areas, it is reassuring to know that such operations are carried out professionally and organized.
