This is what East Frisia offers NordWind care team special support for older people who want to lead a self-determined life. In the newly opened senior living communities “Germann” in Westerende Kirchloog and “Lüttje Karkhörn” in Ochtelbur, residents have the opportunity to live in a familiar atmosphere characterized by smiles and convivial tea meetings. Each of the twelve units per shared apartment includes comfortable apartments between 37 and 45 square meters as well as four larger apartments with an additional room for guests. In addition, all apartments have their own terrace, a barrier-free bathroom and a pantry kitchen.
The nursing team is led by Lars Wallis and Stefan Wäcken, who place great value on empathy and care in care. “We are there for our residents 24 hours a day, even on public holidays,” says Wallis. A service contract ensures that the nursing staff is always available and provides support with errands and doctor's visits. What is crucial is that the approach here offers more privacy than in a traditional nursing home, which is particularly important as the need for care increases.

Integration of AI in care
Parallel to the developments in senior living communities, it is clear that the use of artificial intelligence in care is becoming increasingly important. Just recently, around 100 participants met at the House of Science to discuss the results of three years of research in which the Use of AI in the care sector was investigated. Nine research projects launched in 2022 aim to establish AI technologies and improve the quality of life of people in need of care.
However, the challenges should not be underestimated: the need to catch up is significant, especially in comparison to clinical applications. In order to relieve nursing staff and improve care, people must learn how to use AI systems. At the same time, clear guidelines and evaluative methods are necessary to ensure the safety and efficiency of these systems. An important accompanying project, “ProKIP”, deals intensively with the fair and responsible use of AI in care.
The interaction between innovative care concepts and the use of the most modern technologies shows that East Frisia is taking a good path to enable older people not only to live a dignified but also a self-determined life.
