Construction boom in Braunschweig: foundation stone for new clinic was laid!

The city of Braunschweig took a significant step in healthcare on November 5, 2025. When the foundation stone is laid for the new south part of the Braunschweig Municipal Hospital, the foundation stone for the future central clinic is laid. This is the starting signal for the next phase of the structural transformation, which is expected to lead to the planned commissioning of the east part of the building at the end of 2024 and the south part of the building in 2030.

This impressive new building will offer a gross floor area of 44,000 square meters and create space for 384 beds, modern elective service areas and several medical centers. Specialties such as the cardiopulmonary vascular center, the neurocenter and a pediatric center are brought together under one roof.

The mayor Dr. At the ceremony, Thorsten Kornblum emphasized the great importance of the clinic for general medical services in Lower Saxony. For the citizens of the region, this means a significant improvement in health services, also supported by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Social Affairs, Labor, Health and Equality, which was represented by Katrin Stary.

Innovative architecture and technology

The new part of the building will have eight above-ground floors and a technical floor. In addition, a new main entrance will be created, which will make the clinic more attractive and accessible for visitors. A particular constructive challenge is the creation of a connection between the new and the existing east part of the building, which is realized via two bridges and a spacious two-story entrance hall.

Dr. Andreas Goepfert, managing director of the clinic, spoke of patient-oriented healthcare that will be achieved through this new building. Friedrich Prem, the division manager, described the new part of the building as a key moment in the development of the clinic. It is important to emphasize that the construction will take place during ongoing clinic operations, which is referred to as “Brownfield Development on a Live Site” and therefore places special demands on the construction project.

Investments for the future

The total investment for this project is an impressive 330 million euros. This shows that Braunschweig and Lower Saxony are ready to invest in the medical infrastructure that will be necessary in the future. It is a clear step into the future to meet the increasing demands on healthcare and ensure comprehensive, high-quality treatment for all patients.

In conclusion, it can be said that the development of the Braunschweig Municipal Clinic represents an important signal for the region and its medical system. With the creation of modern facilities and specialized centers, health care will be significantly improved. A project that goes into the future with “a good hand”!
