Braunschweig celebrates: Interactive opening of the Christmas market 2023!
The anticipation for the festive season is increasing because the Braunschweig Christmas market opened its doors on November 26, 2023. This was announced by city marketing manager Nina Fritzler, who also emphasized that this year the opening will be particularly child-friendly. In a new, interactive opening concept, little visitors can sing along to the song “Kling Glöckchen” with their own little bell. And if you don't have a bell with you, you could pick one up from Stadtmarketing GmbH.
A highlight in the opening ceremony was the brass ensemble led by cathedral organist Witold Dulski. At 5:45 p.m. the musicians played at the historic Braunschweig Cathedral, marking the musical start to the celebrations. District mayor Thorsten Kornblum and cathedral preacher Cornelia Götz pressed the red button, and just in time for this moment, more than 10,000 lights shined, bathing the Christmas market in a festive glow. Kornblum said that this appointment was one of his favorites.
Tradition meets innovation
But it wasn't just the opening that made hearts beat faster. This year there are also some innovations that make the Braunschweig Christmas market even more attractive. Eight new stands and additional activities have been integrated into the program. The first 15 minutes of the opening were highlighted as particularly worth experiencing so that visitors could look forward to enjoying the festive atmosphere and smelling the Christmas scents of punch and other delicacies in the air.
The market's popular stalls offer all sorts of treats, crafts and festive gifts. The people of Braunschweig can be excited to see what new diversity awaits them this year. The Christmas market in Braunschweig, which brings joy for 32 days, is not only a destination for the locals, but also attracts numerous visitors from the surrounding area, as is the case with many other Christmas markets in Germany, which attract millions of people, as the ADAC editorial team reports.
A celebration for young and old
The child-friendly orientation of the Christmas market is reflected in many aspects. Children are not only welcome to bring their own bells; Little guests are also taken into consideration at various stands. Not only are crafts and baking done here, but fun is also promised for all generations. The sense of community is therefore very important, which makes the opening a special event.
The year 2023 promises a very special Christmas market experience - for both the old hands and the newcomers. The diverse offering attracts not only locals, but also tourists who want to experience the festive atmosphere of Braunschweig's city center. In combination with the offering of other renowned Christmas markets in Germany, such as the Dresden Striezelmarkt or the Augsburg Christkindlesmarkt, it becomes clear that the Braunschweig Christmas market occupies a very special place this year.
