Braunschweig presents digital 3D portal for commercial spaces!

On October 14, 2025, Braunschweig took a significant step towards digital transformation. A new digital location portal for commercial space has been published, allowing the city to be experienced in 3D. Kommune21 reports that the portal not only shows properties, but is also integrated into a comprehensive digital city model. This makes it the perfect tool for owners, brokers, investors and project developers who want to become active in this dynamic city.

The available commercial space is varied. Whether offices, production and storage areas, retail or even laboratory rooms, there is something for every need. Particularly noteworthy is the possibility of also offering space for vacant company successors. The managing director of the Altmeppen Gesellschaft, Stephan Lechelt, emphasizes the high relevance of this portal for institutional investors. The hope of Kai Florysiak, managing director of the Braunschweig Structural Funding, is that in the future all commercial spaces can be found quickly and easily via the portal.

Dynamics for Braunschweig

This new offer aims to promote investments in Braunschweig and strengthen the general dynamism of the location. Expansions to the portal are already planned, including the possibility of publishing requests for space directly here. The project comes at exactly the right time, as Braunschweig is positioning itself as a future-oriented location.

The Braunschweig town hall is in a completely different area, but also forward-looking. This impressive event location, which was built between 1962 and 1965, is currently being completely renovated. The brutalist building character impresses with exposed concrete and rough textures. However, the town hall with its 23,000 m² and more than 400 rooms has to face the challenges of modern times.

A modern conference venue is being planned

In 2017, a significant need for renovation was identified. The goal is to convert the town hall into a modern congress and event hall by 2028. The focus is on future viability, sustainability and energy efficiency. Particular challenges lie in reconciling the building's listed identity with modern building technology.

A highly motivated planning team works together here. Almost 100 project participants from 13 specialist planning offices are active. Plans include, among other things, the installation of a modern energy management system and the use of geothermal energy for sustainable heat supply. The aim is to reduce energy costs and improve the quality of life in urban areas. Structural funding explains the comprehensive insulation and the photovoltaic system on the roof, which are intended to ensure self-sufficient electricity generation. All of these measures are part of a project whose costs are estimated at around 140 million euros.

Changing and upgrading the town hall is a further step towards creating livable, affordable and barrier-free spaces. This also paves the way for sustainable urban development. In the context of these issues, it is essential to consider the challenges of climate change. Because climate change means that cities have to be prepared against floods and rising temperatures in urban heat islands. In this context, BMZ shows that a sustainable living space can only be created through climate-friendly construction and the promotion of resource-saving materials.

In summary, it can be said that both the digital location portal and the renovation of the town hall are an expression of progress in Braunschweig. Both projects show that the city is investing in the future and wants to actively adapt to the challenges that the development of urban spaces brings with it.
