Tayb's reopening after fire: kebab fans can wait!
The city of Braunschweig, known for its diverse gastronomy, will soon regain one of the most popular kebab shops. After a devastating fire in the summer of 2025, which severely damaged the “Tayba” barbecue business on “Vor der Burg” street, the reopening date has been set: the shop will open its doors again on March 19, 2026. A poster in the shop window proudly announces this, and the operators are sure: “The fire didn't stop us, it made us stronger,” they proclaim.
The fire was caused by a technical defect in the deep fryer, which quickly spread to the extraction system. At this time, the Buskers street music festival was taking place, which increased attention to the drama. Around 70 firefighters had their hands full fighting the flames, and one person had to be treated by emergency services. The affected facility has been closed since then, and the exterior of the store has been marked by barriers and privacy screens.
A gap in the offer
There is currently no comparable snack bar in the area around the Ringerbrunnen. The closure of “Tayba” has left a sensitive gap for many fans of the classic kebab and the quick snack in between. The loss in the gastronomy scene was particularly noticeable in a city where kebab shops can be found on many corners.
Shortly after the fire, the operators emphasized that they wanted to resume operations as quickly as possible. “We have a good hand for this industry and we won’t let it get us down,” they say optimistically. This positive attitude is also reflected in the preparations that are now in full swing to bring the store back to its former strength.
Sparks of memory
Society has experienced such cases again and again in recent years, with fires in snack bars often causing great excitement. In Bremen, for example, there was a devastating fire in a kebab shop in which four people were injured, including a seven-year-old girl who had to be resuscitated. Fortunately, the incident in Braunschweig was much less serious, but it continues to remind the catering industry and the authorities of the important safety standards.
While all the flames have been extinguished for the time being, anticipation remains high for the reopening of the popular “Tayba”. The kebab shop is becoming known not only for its excellent fast food, but also for the community that has formed around it. At least the tasty snacks have stood the test of time, and many are hoping for a return to their usual indulgences.
