Sad farewell: Restaurant La Cosa” in Braunschweig closes after 18 years

It is a moving farewell for Braunschweig's gastronomy: The popular restaurant “La Cosa” in the Schlosspassage has closed its doors after almost 18 years. Owner Laura Lepizzera has decided to take a new career path and is leaving the world of gastronomy. “Gastronomy demands so much of my life and I don’t want it anymore,” she said on her farewell day, October 25th. At the age of 41, she feels that the time has come for a change of perspective and looks back on an important time with both a crying and a laughing eye.

For Lepizzera, the restaurant wasn't just a job. She will have fond memories of emotional moments with guests and the numerous friendships she has made over the years. Famous faces such as Thomas Gottschalk and Gerhard Schröder were among their guests and contributed to the special atmosphere that defined “La Cosa”.

The end of an era

The three-person team will also quit, as Lepizzera is not only leaving her independence, but also the catering industry behind. Her mother is retiring and the long-time chef is also looking for new opportunities outside of the restaurant industry. These personal changes make saying goodbye all the more difficult.

But with every ending comes a new beginning. A successor for the restaurant is already in the starting blocks. Extensive renovation work is planned for November to give the new concept an Asian orientation. The opening date in December has already been set and is arousing curiosity about the culinary innovations that the Braunschweig city community can expect.

A look at the gastronomy

Gastronomy, a fascinating interplay of art and science, not only captivates chefs and restaurant owners. It covers the entire range from the preparation to the consumption of food and drinks. The history of gastronomy goes back to the origins of food culture, encompassing everything from regional cooking traditions to innovative experiments in molecular gastronomy.

“Gastronomy” itself comes from the ancient Greek term for the stomach and represents the art and habits of eating. This discipline has constantly developed over the centuries and is now a globally valued field that attracts more and more people. So we think not only about delicious dishes, but also about the cultural contexts that surround each meal.

Although the “La Cosa” chapter in Braunschweig is now closed, the passion for good food and the joy of culinary exchange remains alive. The new restaurant concept has the chance to enrich the city's gastronomic landscape and bring a breath of fresh air into the Schlosspassage.

Lepizzera can look back on almost two decades of memories as the city looks forward to new tastes and experiences. Change is a constant companion in the restaurant industry, and sometimes it's exactly what everyone involved needs.
