Incredible find in Braunschweig: old Wolters beer bottle discovered!

On November 1, 2025, a surprising discovery rediscovered the regional history books. At the Knieke seed house in Braunschweig, an employee named Vanessa made an astonishing find: an old beer bottle from the renowned Hofbrauhaus Wolters brewery, hidden behind a defective heater. The bottle was very dusty and seemed to have been there for many years. Vanessa has worked at the seed house for over seven years and proudly shared her find in a Facebook group to determine the relic's age.

Users in the group let their imaginations run wild and speculated that the bottle's label might be from the 1980s or 1990s. An eagle-eyed user noticed that the best-before date was missing from the bottle, suggesting it was produced before 1981. This raises the interesting question: How many stories could this bottle tell if it could talk?

A long history in Braunschweig

Hofbrauhaus Wolters GmbH, founded in 1627, is one of the oldest breweries in Germany and has a deep connection to the city of Braunschweig. Known as the largest private brewery in Lower Saxony, the brewery looks back on an eventful history and offers various cult drinks such as the popular Wolters Pilsener and the Black Duke. These beer brands not only symbolize a long brewing tradition, but also the brewery's commitment to regional cultural and sporting events, such as sponsorship of Eintracht Braunschweig, as Wikipedia reports.

But it's not just the history of the brewery that is remarkable, but also the development of the brewery itself. After Hofbrauhaus Wolters AG was closed by InBev Germany in 2005, they experienced a rebirth under the name Hofbrauhaus Wolters GmbH. Today the brewery has around 125 employees and generated sales of 31.02 million euros in 2020.

A connection to today

The discovery of the beer bottle shows that even in a digital world, the connection to traditional roots and stories remains important. The discovery not only sheds light on the history of beer brewing in Braunschweig, but also stimulates conversations about local history.

As the brewery has always guaranteed throughout its history, quality and connection to the region are still at the heart of Hofbrauhaus Wolters today. Whether at a social beer evening or as part of regional festivals, Wolters beer remains an integral part of northern German culture.

So take a look behind your heaters! Maybe a little piece of history rests there, just waiting to be brought back to life.
