On November 13th, Blue Origin, the space company owned by well-known multi-billionaire Jeff Bezos, took a significant step towards the future. During a successful launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida, the team managed to capture the propulsor of its New Glenn rocket and land it in a controlled manner on a barge in the ocean. These maneuvers have previously been reserved exclusively for SpaceX and represent a historic moment for Blue Origin. Ariane Cornell, the company's vice president, called the day "historic" during a live broadcast, lifting spirits in the space community. Even Elon Musk paid tribute to Bezos and his team on Platform X for this success.
But that was just the beginning. In the long term, Blue Origin plans to significantly increase the frequency of its launches and reduce costs in order to finally catch up in the race for supremacy in the space sector. The New Glenn rocket had its first orbital adventure just in January, carrying a NASA mission called Escapade to explore Mars. According to Le Courrier, NASA is even considering breaking away from SpaceX because of the delays in moving forward with the Artemis program to return to the moon.

NASA also plans to optimally position the probe that was recently launched from the New Glenn. These probes, called Blue and Gold, will wait in a safe “parking orbit” until the opportune moment to fly to Mars comes in 2027. This also shows the pressure that NASA is under to advance its lunar program, which has been slowed down by various complications in recent months.
In the space race, Blue Origin has formulated a clear strategy that takes both the technological and operational aspects into account. The company is establishing itself as a serious competitor to SpaceX, and its success in recycling its rockets could prove crucial.
