EA brings Mass Effect to Battlefield: The crossover revolution begins!
There is always exciting news in the world of video games. Electronic Arts (EA) and BioWare have teamed up to bring back the popular Mass Effect series in a new form. But instead of a classic new game, there is a unique collaboration with Battlefield 2042, like Gameblog reported.
EA President Laura Miele recently announced that EA wants to focus on significant growth opportunities. While plans for a Marvel's Black Panther game have been scrapped, projects like the Iron Man game and Mass Effect 5 development remain on track. However, it will be a disappointment for many fans that Mass Effect 5 can't be expected until 2028 or 2029 at the earliest.
Cosmetic packs and a crossover event
On June 17, 2025, Battlefield 2042 will receive an update (8.9.0) that introduces the exciting collaboration with Mass Effect. Players can purchase three new cosmetic packs between June 17 and July 1, 2025:
- Galactic Bundle: 1.750 BFC
- Scoped & Dropped Bundle: 2.000 BFC
- Mass Effect Citadel Bundle: 3.000 BFC, enthält alle Kosmetika des Events.
This new content takes a look at the cult series Mass Effect and offers fans the opportunity to equip their characters with unique skins. Despite this exciting announcement, many players are expressing a desire for more concrete information about the next mainline title in the series.
Growth of the gaming industry
The gaming niche is booming, particularly in the Asia Pacific region, where relevance is constantly growing thanks to new technologies and increasing internet penetration. A report from Mordor Intelligence shows that the market size is estimated to be around USD 272.86 billion in 2024 and could grow to USD 426.02 billion by 2029.
There is also considerable development in the area of mobile gaming, which rose to 2.7 billion players and 90 billion downloads in 2022. It's clear that the gaming world is constantly changing and offering more and more opportunities for gamers. At the same time, the regulatory landscape is challenging, particularly when it comes to issues such as loot boxes and the protection of intellectual property rights.
The announcement of the crossover event between Battlefield 2042 and Mass Effect makes fans very optimistic. It will be interesting to see what the combination of these two iconic gaming universes will look like in practice. The time until the release of Mass Effect 5 may still be a long time away, but the anticipation remains great.
