Fire drama in Celle: Kitchen is on fire, lifesavers are on duty!

On the night of October 26, 2025, more precisely at 1:38 a.m., a devastating fire broke out in a restaurant in the historic old town of Celle. The ground floor of a four-story half-timbered house on Zöllnerstrasse on the corner of Rabengasse was completely engulfed in flames. This reports Langenhagen News.

The situation turned out to be extremely dangerous because several people on the upper floor were trapped in the smoke. The fire brigade immediately pulled out all the stops to save the trapped people. A team climbed a portable ladder to the second floor, where three affected people were cared for in a smoke-free apartment and then brought to safety using the turntable ladder. A fourth person was rescued via the stairwell. A total of seven people were affected, but fortunately there were no injuries or hospitalizations Regionews reported.

The use of the fire brigade

The fire was fought quickly by a team wearing breathing apparatus on the ground floor. Using a C-pipe, the emergency services managed to quickly extinguish the fire and contain its spread. This measure was necessary because the kitchen of the restaurant was on fire. To avoid further risks, two gas cylinders were taken out of the building and cooled outside. Extensive extinguishing work followed, with three different teams using respiratory protection.

The fire brigade also used two turntable ladders: a DLA(K) 23/12 on Zöllnerstrasse and a DLK 12/9 on Rabengasse. A total of around 100 emergency services were on site, including the local fire departments in Celle-Hauptwache and Groß Hehlen as well as the operational management team. The entire operation ended around 2:30 a.m. with the last unit leaving the site.

The exact circumstances of the fire are currently unclear and the fire department has not provided any information. Fortunately, all affected people were uninjured. This incident once again illustrates how quickly a comfortable night session can turn into a dangerous situation. It remains to be hoped that those affected can survive this event without any lasting damage.
