Frescoes for the Tour de France: Art celebrates Normandy and agriculture!

What does summer 2025 bring for the region around Caen? A real festival for country and cycling lovers is coming! On July 9, 2025, during the Tour de France time trial, there were not only exciting cycling races to watch, but also impressive artistic performances that highlighted the beauty of Norman agriculture. In a field north of Caen, a large fresco of a flax plant and the lettering “LIN 14” could be seen, symbolizing the region's commitment to its agricultural landscape.

Under the motto “Notre terroir”, the 2025 Tour de France highlights Norman agricultural skills and stunning rural landscapes. This is not the first time this has happened: the partnership between the FNSEA and the Tour de France has existed since 2008 and has already led to the creation of numerous frescoes in the past. Dozens of farmers and creative people took part in the “Les Agriculteurs aim le tour” competition in the Falaise area to create fascinating agricultural works of art. According to the information from Agriculturist Normand A total of 25 frescoes are planned for the male and female editions of the Tour de France 2025. This sets a new record for the artistic project.

The creative highlight in Basly

The residents of the municipality of Basly can be particularly proud of the largest fresco created here by the artist Anne-Ingrid le Granché. The 35x35 meter depiction of a flax plant attracts everyone's attention and demonstrates the region's connection to its agricultural tradition. Over 25 volunteers took part in the realization of the frescoes, which were created with biodegradable paint, miscanthus and flax fibers. Anne-Ingrid le Granché, who changed her career to become a land artist in 2018, draws inspiration from the natural environment and creates works that are in harmony with nature.

The creation of frescoes traditionally involves a process in which drawing on paper takes a back seat while the large motifs are transferred directly onto the field. In addition to the frescoes, a “Village emploi agricole” will also be set up in Colomby-Anguerny, which, with 3,000 visitors expected, will be a meeting point for enthusiasts and interested parties. This initiative enables an exciting connection between art and agriculture in the middle of the world's most famous cycling race.

International dimension of art

Agriculture in Denmark will also blossom in a new light when the Tour de France crosses the region from Vejle to Sønderborg in July 2025. A land art project is being implemented here in collaboration between the farmers' association and a design school in Kolding. Under the motto “Aux vélos, Sydjylland!” will be creatively decorated along the route with straw bales, plants and farm equipment to highlight cycling, sustainability and the beauty of nature. This commitment, as colleagues report from North Schleswiger, is aimed at farmers, private individuals and schools and promotes creative exchange in the region.

In conclusion, the 2025 Tour de France is not just a race for podiums, but above all a celebration of agricultural tradition, regional pride and the creative energy that can be felt in every corner of the regions concerned. Be there and experience the connection between art and cycling in northern France and Denmark!
