All about living: Linke Celle invites you to an open discussion on November 13th

On Thursday, November 13th, Die Linke Celle invites you to an informative event at its party office in Neustadt 52. From 6 p.m. everything revolves around the topic of living space in Celle. Thorben Peters, the state chairman of Die Linke Niedersachsen, will talk about the need for affordable housing and the causes of homelessness.

A key concept Peters will embrace is “Housing First.” This approach model, which has already been successfully implemented in numerous cities such as Berlin, Bremen and Hamburg, stipulates that those affected first receive permanent accommodation before their further problems are dealt with. This paves the way to a self-determined life. According to Deutschlandfunk Kultur, over 263,000 people in Germany still live without their own living space. There is still a lot to do to achieve the federal government's goal of ending homelessness by 2030.

Lectures and discussions

The event will be enriched by further interesting lectures. An employee of the Diakonisches Werk Celle will talk about his work with people looking for housing who are receiving community benefit. City councilor Behiye Uca will also report on her experiences in social work with those seeking help. City councilor Stephan Ohl will present an application entitled “Housing First – living space instead of waiting loops”. The aim is to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and make livable living space accessible.

The evening is rounded off with a contribution from district chairwoman Manuela Mast about the local rent situation and the Left's current activities regarding its rent campaign. Audiences have the opportunity to ask questions after each lecture, enriching the exchange and discussion about solutions.

The rent campaign and the future

The starting situation in Celle is not easy. A lack of affordable housing and rising rents are putting a strain on many households. At the event, Manuela Mast will explain how the Left is trying to improve the rental situation and what solutions are being offered. It is important that the population is involved in this process in order to create awareness of the acute problems.

Finland shows that with the right approach it is possible to significantly reduce the number of homeless people. The “Housing First” concept has been methodically pursued there since 2008 and has achieved encouraging success in reducing homelessness. This could be a model for implementation in Germany.

The event on November 13th offers a great opportunity to find out about the housing situation in Celle and to actively participate in the discussion. Admission is free, so come along and bring your questions and ideas!
