Queen Caroline Mathilde and her time

Caroline Mathilde is not only known for her royal connections, but also for her tragic life story. She spent the last years of her life in exile at Castle Castle and died there at the age of only 23. The exhibition will shed light on the social background of its time and show the influence of the educational movement by personalities such as Johann Friedrich Struensee on the Danish state. Struensee, a German educational philosopher and doctor, became her lover and tried to reform Denmark in the spirit of the Enlightenment before he was executed in 1772. These abrupt turns in the gem of history are an essential part of the topic of the exhibition, which, as residenzmuseum.de, refers to a comprehensive program with further events in the anniversary year.

With this exhibition, the BBK Celle will not only be able to present artistic works, but also to take a look back at a moving and significant time of Danish-German history. The preparations are in full swing and the art scene in Celle can look forward to an exciting event!
