SV Nienhagen cycles records: 30,961 km in city cycling 2025!
On August 23, 2025, the Northern Germany region celebrated a remarkable success in this year's city cycling. SV Nienhagen secured first place in the Celle district and impressed with a record performance of a total of 30,961 kilometers. This exceeded the previous year's best performance by several thousand kilometers, which reflects the great passion and commitment of the members. Oliver Kohls stands out as the main driver and logged an impressive 1,864 kilometers for the team. This good news was received from Celle press spread.
The SK Nienhagen honor took place in a festive setting at the Hölty-Gymnasium Hambühren, while at the same time the athletes were able to shine by taking part in a double event in Bremen. Here Martin Mrozek achieved 7th place in the Masters 2 individual time trial over 18 km with a time of 27 minutes and 30 seconds. Timon Krüger was able to achieve a respectable 5th place in the elite class after 62 km and thus secured his stay in the highest German amateur class.
City cycling 2025 under the sign of team spirit
The starting signal for city cycling was given on May 1, 2025, and the participants had set themselves a high goal in order to collect as many kilometers as possible. The Celle district had already accumulated the most kilometers of all newcomers last year, and this excellent performance served as motivation to achieve even more this year. SV Nienhagen was encouraged to form a large team in order to become active together and collect as many cycling kilometers as possible. Members were able to enter kilometers and network with other cyclists using the specially designed app. Those interested could also register via the SV Nienhagen website to become part of this big event, which not only contributes to health but also to improving the CO2 balance.
What is particularly pleasing is that a voucher from Intersport Celle was presented during the city cycling event as part of the community festival, which further boosts the community spirit. SV Nienhagen is very popular with the Wathlingen community and, with its commitment, has made a significant contribution to promoting cycling in the region.
A look beyond the city limits
City cycling is not only popular in Lower Saxony, but also in other federal states. That's how it reported State Ministry of Transport of Baden-Württemberg that a whopping 817 municipalities took part in 2024 and cycled around 46 million kilometers. These impressive figures make it clear how many people in Germany are making an active contribution to climate protection. Over a million people took part in this international competition, thereby contributing to improving cycling infrastructure and saving CO2.
City cycling, which has been running since 2008, has established itself as a popular competition that not only promotes cycling, but also raises awareness of climate protection. Participants have the opportunity to choose the period between May 1st and September 30th to dedicate themselves to the sporting goal and document their achievements.
