Drama in Delmenhorst: Man seriously injured in house fire saves family!
In Delmenhorst, not far from Bremen, there was a dramatic fire in an apartment building on Sunday, which left its devastating mark. A 28-year-old man suffered serious injuries. When the fire brigade arrived, his apartment was already fully ablaze. The man had escaped to the balcony and was brought to safety by emergency services at the last minute. He was taken to a hospital in a Bundeswehr rescue helicopter, but according to the latest information, the injured person's life is currently not in danger. Firefighters successfully extinguished the fire and confiscated the scene while investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. There is currently no exact information about the amount of damage caused, but it is expected to be significant. Bremen.t-online.de reported.
But it wasn't just the 28-year-old who became the hero of that tragic night: an attentive neighbor heard the cries for help from the affected apartment and didn't hesitate for long to kick in the door. This enabled him to free a woman and her five children who were able to escape from the apartment. Everyone was able to get to safety in time and uninjured. Fortunately, the remaining residents of the apartment building remained uninjured and all got outside unscathed.
Cause of fire in focus
The police are currently investigating the cause of the fire, which, according to initial reports, broke out in the kitchen of a family of six. The affected apartment is now uninhabitable, which means that the family and the nine-member family living below, whose apartment is also affected, have to stay with relatives. According to estimates, the damage amounts to around 80,000 euros, which underlines the seriousness of the incident. NDR.de reported.
The devastating consequences of such fires should not be underestimated. According to the Association for the Promotion of German Fire Protection Between 2013 and 2017, there were over 5,000 operations in Germany that were triggered by kitchen fires. These alone account for 27% of all fires. Things become particularly critical in the late evening hours: less happens between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., but the damage is often enormous. This shows once again how important preventive measures are.
The events in Delmenhorst remind us that when dealing with fire, it often only takes seconds to prevent a catastrophe or cause something terrible to happen. We should all have a good knack for safety in everyday life and always inform ourselves about possible fire hazards. In this way, we may be able to act quickly and correctly in an emergency.
