New daycare building in Delmenhorst: 115 places for the little ones!

There is reason to be happy in Delmenhorst: A new inclusive daycare center (Kita) is being built on Försterstraße, which will offer space for 115 children. With a construction volume of around 6.3 million euros, this facility will be an important component in early childhood care. According to Weser Kurier, construction is scheduled to begin in December 2023 and the daycare center is expected to open its doors in summer 2027.

The new daycare center will not only include group rooms for children over and under three, but will also provide special rooms for exercise, creativity and intensive care. The spatial planning is based on the existing Moorkamp daycare center and provides for comprehensive use of the more than 1,400 square meters. The area will also be surrounded by a playground, which meets the children's need for play and exercise. Coherent technical equipment, such as photovoltaics and heat pumps, ensures sustainable construction.

Need for childcare places in Delmenhorst

The construction of this important project is no coincidence, as the demand for childcare places in Delmenhorst is increasing. According to current forecasts, 828 to 843 births are expected in the coming years, while 687 children were born in Delmenhorst in 2023. The need for childcare is therefore high, especially since a daycare center with 75 new places was opened on Westfalenstrasse at the beginning of the year in order to meet the ongoing demand. As delmenhorst.de explains in detail, at least one daycare center with integration groups is offered in every district of Delmenhorst in order to also provide comprehensive care for children with special needs.

The importance of daycare centers for early childhood development cannot be overestimated. They not only promote language acquisition, but also social and motor skills, which are crucial for later school attendance. For groups of up to 25 children, responsible care is guaranteed, which is supported by specially trained specialists in integration groups.

Financing and outlook

Financing for such projects plays a central role, and although the daycare center on Försterstraße is being built without support from the state of Lower Saxony, there are extensive programs at the federal level to support the expansion of the daycare center. According to the BMBF, a total of 3.5 billion euros will be available by the end of 2027 to expand childcare places for primary school children and to ensure the quality of daycare.

The construction of the new daycare center is not only a step towards better care for the children in Delmenhorst, but also an expression of the city and the federal government's commitment to early childhood education. The course has been set and we can look forward to seeing how the daycare landscape develops in the coming years.
