BW Borssum triumphs: 6:1 victory in the 2025 city championship!

The Emden City Championship 2025 kept what it promised: Exciting games and an unforgettable final made the end of the tournament a real spectacle. In the end, BW Borssum triumphed with an impressive 6-1 win against TuS Pewsum and thus defended the title they had already won last year. The events surrounding the city championship took place in the North Sea Hall and attracted a total of around 3,400 spectators, who created a heated atmosphere - an absolute record in Emden's sports history NWZonline reports.

The tournament was organized in the usual manner by the BW Borssum and Suurhusen clubs and scored with excellent organization. Marko Münkenwarf, the chairman of BW Borssum, was extremely enthusiastic about the implementation and the exciting games. In the group phase, the teams asserted themselves as follows: TuS Pewsum, although faced with a weak start, secured group victory in Group A, while Borssum I demonstrated its dominance in Group B and won all games.

Exciting duels in the semi-finals

The semi-final was a hot one: Pewsum prevailed against Larrelt, while Borssum won the second match against Hinte on nine meters. What a drama! The final then offered a lot of excitement as Pewsum initially took the lead, but Borssum turned the game around with a great team effort and ultimately won. The atmosphere was not only filled with cheers, but also with some unpleasant incidents. There were insults and threats against the referees, which even led to police intervention, as the organizers noted.

Nevertheless, the positive impressions outweighed the negatives. The spectators took part with a lot of passion and the physical well-being was well taken care of, including an after-show party to properly celebrate the successful city championship. The enthusiasm of the fans is also reflected in the latest one Sports report which states that football is still very popular in Germany and ensures a constant growth in visitor numbers.

A look into the future

Given the growing interest in German football – among both men and women – the continuous improvements and positive media presence show that football is on a promising path. The women's Bundesliga, for example, has more than tripled in size and is at the forefront of the league of spectator magnets. Events like the City Championship are a small but important part of this bigger picture, which is preparing for the upcoming major international events like UEFA Euro 2024.

The Emden city championship was not only a sporting highlight, but also a remarkable expression of community and support for local football. And so players and fans alike are looking forward to the next edition of this popular event - there's definitely something to come!
