Innovation by the fire: Start-ups are shaping the future in the north!
An exciting event on the topic of innovations and start-ups will be held in the north today. Around 35 representatives from 12 companies, the Emden/Leer University of Applied Sciences and the district administration gathered under the motto “Innovations around the fire – when start-ups shape the future”. The event is organized by the Aurich District Economic Development GmbH and CorneXion GmbH from Lingen. The opening took place with greetings from Carl-Ulfert Stegmann from the AG Reederei Norden-Frisia as well as District Administrator Olaf Meinen and Jelto Müller from the Aurich District Economic Development GmbH, as Wirtschaft Aktuell reports.
The main focus was on the pitches from three exciting start-ups, which were able to present innovative solutions. Amber presented AI-supported knowledge management that supports GDPR-compliant information availability. HR-Autopilot also showed a platform for automating HR processes that requires no programming effort. Concept-e, on the other hand, focused on planning and controlling operational energy systems with the aim of reducing costs and reducing emissions. Amber received the Best Pitch Award, presented by co-founder and CRO Bastian Maiworm.
Networking and outlook
A special part of the event was the get-together with catering by PIER Norddeich. Here the participants had plenty of opportunity to exchange ideas and identify potential points of contact. The response was consistently positive, with both open and committed feedback from the companies. The actors from the economic development district of Aurich and CorneXion GmbH are already planning further events to further strengthen the innovative strength in the region.
But that is not the only interesting development in the region. At the end of 2024, Lingen will become an official satellite location and a member of KI Park e. V., an international network for artificial intelligence (AI). This is reported by Cornexion. With over 160 members from more than ten countries, including well-known companies such as Deloitte, Schaeffler, Volkswagen and NVIDIA, the network aims to bring AI strategies and products to market maturity. Lingen will focus on the combination of artificial intelligence and green hydrogen in order to position itself as an international business and energy location.
The planned construction of an emissions-free AI data center that will be powered by green hydrogen shows the focus on sustainability and innovative technologies. In addition, the KI Park Lingen will be closely linked to CorneXion GmbH, which made a significant contribution to the establishment of the KI Park.
Regulatory developments
With regard to the regulatory framework, the focus is on setting up real-world AI laboratories, as the Bundesnetzagentur reports. These are intended to act as central instruments for promoting innovation in the EU. By August 2, 2026, each member state must have at least one AI real laboratory ready for use. These real-world laboratories offer companies the opportunity to develop and test innovative AI systems under real conditions, which is particularly advantageous for SMEs and start-ups.
In summary, the North region is a hub for innovative ideas and future-oriented technologies. The fusion of artificial intelligence and sustainable concepts could not only give a boost to the local economy, but also radiate internationally.
