Pink Power”: Jever women inspire at the film festival in Emden!
What an evening at the Festspielhaus in Emden! On Tuesday evening, audiences witnessed the highly anticipated premiere of the documentary “Pink Power,” presented by the Coastal Pinkies. The film will be shown as part of the 35th Emden-Norderney International Film Festival, which will take place from June 11th to 18th, 2025. As nwzonline.de reports, the film was described as the best attended of the festival. This shows how high the interest and emotional response of the viewers is.
The evening began on a very celebratory note as a dragon boat pulled up and the Coastal Pinkies, a team of women affected by breast cancer, marched into the cinema to applause from the audience. Festival director Edzard Wagenaar praised the committed community and its history. The film, which lasts 70 minutes, addresses the realities of these strong women's lives and how dragon boating has become a source of motivation, support and joy in life for them.
A touching insight into personal stories
“Pink Power” gives the Jever residents Jasmin Eilers (45) and Kornelia Jürgens (71) a voice. They share their personal experiences with the diagnosis and how they found dragon boating as a way to combat breast cancer. The film impressively shows how the team, also part of the global “Pink Paddlings” movement, wants to take part in the European Dragon Boat Championships in Italy. Your goal is not only to be successful in sports, but also to celebrate a personal triumph over your illness.
Audiences responded warmly to the film's emotional moments; Laughter and applause filled the room, and the audience's voices reflected the power of community that lies in the protagonists' stories. The film was directed by the young filmmaker Chiara Kempers, who tackles an important topic in German cinema with her sensitive treatment.
