The summer holidays are coming to an end, and in northwest Germany there is no better reason to put on your sports shoes. From the end of August, a whole series of fun runs leads through idyllic landscapes and vibrant cities. Many enthusiastic runners have already been looking forward to the upcoming events, while some are still able to submit the last registrations.
The first highlight is on August 22nd, when the harbor festival run begins in Barßel. The competitions start at 5 p.m. in various distances: for the little ones there are the bambini runs over 400 meters, and students can prove themselves in the school run over 1.8 km. In addition, the 5 km run, a Nordic walking event of the same distance and the 10 km run for adults offer a solid selection. Registrations are possible until August 20th, so stay tuned in time!
Variety of offers
The Jever Fun Run will also take place on August 23rd. Sports enthusiasts can tackle various distances here: In addition to the Bambini run over 500 meters, there are school and main runs of 800 m, 5 km, 10 km as well as the main run over 10 miles (approx. 16.1 km). At the same time, there is the Emden Diversity Run, which attracts with a special focus on inclusion. Distances of 10 km, 5 km, as well as the school run (1.5 km) and the Kinner Loop (1 km) are on the program.
It continues on August 29th with the festival run in Münkeboe, where distances between 5 km and 12 km are offered, as well as the moor run in Lammertsfehn, where participants are allowed to run 5 km - although the number of participants is limited to 100 people. Things get particularly exciting on September 7th: the summer run in Wardenburg and the bridge run in Vechta offer runs over several distances, while the marathon in Bremerhaven provides the big stage for long-distance runners.
Marathon Bremerhaven – an event in a class of its own
The City Marathon Bremerhaven on September 7th will be a real highlight among northern Germans who love running. Here athletes can choose between different distances: In addition to the classic marathon over 42.195 km, there is also the half marathon, as well as 10 km and 5 km runs. For children there are even shorter distances of 800 m and 400 m, which are free of charge. The route leads through the fascinating northern part of the city, the city center and over the dike with breathtaking views of the North Sea - an experience that should not be missed.
The entry fees vary depending on the distance. You can expect to pay around 12.00 to 25.00 euros for the 10 km run, while the marathon is between 30.00 and 60.00 euros - a worthwhile investment for priceless memories and a very special running experience.

The numbers from the past few years provide an exciting insight into the country's running culture. Statistics show that more and more people are finding their way into running shoes, but the impact of the corona pandemic cannot be denied. Laufmarkt makes it clear that some events had to be canceled or only offered replacement programs. Nevertheless, the running community remains strong and remains unshakable. Overall, a few events are already being planned for 2022, and the anticipation of registrations is constantly growing. Attention and early registration are required in order to keep up with the times - a good opportunity to get active!
