Important road closure in Emden: Trough route closed at night from July 14th!

Renewed work on the trough line in Emden is imminent. From Monday, July 14th until Thursday, July 17th, the trough route will be completely closed overnight from 8pm to 6am. This happens as part of the necessary joint sealing. The construction company has ordered the complete closure for safety reasons in order to avoid damage to vehicles. However, the road remains passable during the day, which should provide some relief for road users. Rescue and emergency vehicles are allowed to pass through the trough during work.

The work involved extends over around 1,600 meters, with the joints not only having to be widened, but also edged, brushed and cleaned. Such measures are crucial to ensure the long-term integrity of the roadway and to prevent cracks that can occur due to moisture ingress and material movement. High-quality solutions and careful planning are particularly important here in order not to endanger traffic safety, as the Denso Group describes in its analyzes of joints and seams.

Planned measures after the renovation

After the successful joint renovation, further work is already being planned. A water pipe is planned to be laid in the Petkumer Straße intersection from July 26th to 27th and August 2nd and 3rd, 2025. Reinforcement and concreting work as well as the completion of the road drains and paving of the caps are also on the agenda. Asphalt work is also being carried out in the area of Petkumer Straße and Zur Alten Briquettetfabrik.

Will traffic be able to flow again soon?

Road marking work and the creation of signage are also at the top of the list. Following these measures, the maximum permissible speed will also be increased to 50 km/h for cars and 30 km/h for trucks. All activities are scheduled for completion in summer 2025. In addition, planting work is planned in the entrance areas of the trough route for the 2025/26 planting season.

An additional highlight for the region is the “Hit the Trog” graffiti event, which is scheduled to take place from August 14th to 16th, 2026. The renovations also have a social dimension, as they create the framework for cultural events in the city.

The Emden trough route is of great importance for transport connections in the region. The upcoming measures are therefore not only a necessary evil, but also an opportunity to improve the transport infrastructure for the future. All those involved can only hope that the planned work goes smoothly so that the trough route can soon be used again in the usual way.
