AI in schools and youth work: specialist day for Gifhorn on November 26th!

November brings fresh impulses for youth work and educational institutions in Gifhorn. On Wednesday, November 26th, an exciting specialist day on the topic of “AI in youth work and schools” will take place at the Gifhorn district adult education center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The one-day event is organized by the Prevention Alliance for a Peaceful Gifhorn, an association of various institutions, including the district, the city of Gifhorn, the BBS 1 and 2 and the police station. The aim of the alliance is to promote harmonious coexistence in the region, and this specialist day is an essential part of these efforts.

The focus of the specialist day is the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in working with children and young people. It starts with a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Bozana Meinhardt-Injac from the Catholic University of Social Affairs Berlin, entitled “School and youth work in the age of artificial intelligence: A learning process for everyone?” will provide insights into the importance and challenges of AI in the educational landscape. Afterwards, there are five practical workshops on the program that invite participants to explore various aspects of AI use.

A variety of workshops for those interested

The workshops are specifically tailored to the needs of the participants. The first workshop deals with the “possible uses of AI in youth work”, led by Conny Scheier from Koop-konzepte. In the second workshop, the “Opportunities and risks of using AI in schools” will be discussed by Patricia Gomis Diaz from the Papenteich High School.

Kristina Meyer from the Gifhorn Police Department will speak in the third workshop about digital risks caused by photos of children and young people published on the Internet. The fourth workshop provides an introduction to “AI practice, challenges and application of AI tools” led by Stefan Schaper, a freelance media consultant. The workshop program is rounded off by the presentation of the AI tool “Lino – the AI parenting trainer”, presented by Tim Fedkenhauer from Life Concepts.

Participation and registration

Participation in this innovative specialist day is possible for 40 euros per person. Particularly pleasing: Volunteers, JuLeiCa owners and people who are active in non-profit organizations can take part free of charge. Registrations are requested directly by email to Anastasia Anastasiadou.

This specialist day in Gifhorn is a scene vehicle that shows how important the connection between tradition and innovation is in education. At a time when technology is playing an increasingly important role, this day is an opportunity to find solutions and address the challenges posed by AI. It remains exciting to see what new approaches and ideas will emerge from the workshops and how the participants can implement them in their work.

Meanwhile, the education system in Europe shows that language skills also play an important role. The latest EF English Proficiency Index report, which assesses adult English proficiency, was published in early November 2023. This analysis not only provides insights into the language skills of the population, but also indications of how these vary from region to region. Combined with economic and social factors, it can be seen how important language education is for personal and professional development.

Whether in youth work, in schools or as part of community projects - the commitment to active exchange and the promotion of skills is crucial in today's world. Let’s get to it!
