Volunteer heroes honored: Göttingen Commitment Prize 2025 awarded!

On December 4, 2025, the ceremonial awarding of the Göttingen GO! took place in the Old Town Hall of Göttingen. Commitment Prize 2025. The award recognizes outstanding volunteer work in the city and is awarded in four different categories. The award ceremony was opened by Siegfried Lieske, chairman of the Göttingen Community Foundation, who not only welcomed those present, but also emphasized the great importance of volunteer work. A total of 24 suggestions for prize winners were received, which did not make the selection easy for the jury, consisting of various representatives.

In the “Committed Living” category, Jürgen Bömeke, a member of the community leadership team at the parish of Maria Queen of Peace in Göttingen-Geismar, was pleased to receive the award. Together with Heide Hildebrandt, a committed basketball coach, and Rudolph Albrecht, chairman of the Pro Senior residents' association, he was honored for his many years of commitment. Mayor Jutta Steinke gave the laudatory speech and acknowledged Bömeke's remarkable contribution to the community, which has spanned more than 25 years. He is not only a committed member of the community, but also a central figure at the Geismar Round Table and launched the “Longest Coffee Table” campaign.
