Innovation award Göttingen-Northeim: 130 ideas are waiting for the light!
Göttingen, Deutschland - On June 26, 2025, the application phase for the innovation award of the Göttingen Northeim region was officially completed. This competition is not only very popular in southern Lower Saxony, but is also very important nationwide. A total of 130 applications were submitted under the motto "let ideas shine", and that of both companies and research institutions from the region and all of Germany. The application deadline ended on June 15, 2025, and the variety of projects submitted is impressive.
The competition contributions can be found exciting ideas such as software for the detection of AI generated media and Deepfakes. Innovative developments such as a platform for medication development on functional human 3D fabric and a (beach) soul are also represented. These exciting innovations show the wide range of creative solutions that arise in the region.
Overview of the applications
The submitted projects are spread over several categories. Here is a look at the applications:
- 51 in the category "Founders and young entrepreneurs" (up to 2 years after the foundation)
- 52 in the category "Companies up to 20 employees"
- 27 in the category "Companies over 20 employees"
The contributions are assessed by a jury consisting of experts from nine different fields of competence. The unique selling point of innovation, economic success and the economic effect are evaluated. Managing Director Marc Diederich has already dealt intensively with the submitted applications.
The award ceremony
A total of ten cash prizes of 30,000 euros are awarded - this is not a small amount! In addition, an audience award of 2,000 euros is donated by MEKOM regional management in Osterode. The award ceremony will take place on November 20, 2025 at 6 p.m. in the Göttingen town hall. Before the award ceremony, there is a trade fair for innovations from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., to which inviting companies, investors, educational institutions and innovation enthusiasts are welcomed. Admission to the fair is free of charge.
Another highlight of this event will be the Lower Saxony climate innovation award, which is endowed with 10,000 euros by the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Environment. 51 companies from Lower Saxony have applied for this price, which underlines the great relevance of the topic.
The prominent guests of the award ceremony include Petra Broistedt, the mayor of the city of Göttingen, Marcel Riethig, the district administrator of the district of Göttingen, and Astrid Klinkert-Kittell, district administrator of the district of Northeim. The innovation award will be awarded for the 23rd time this year, and the anticipation for the event could not be greater.
