Sound engineer stops filming in the Göttingen horror house out of fear!
The tone was tense and the atmosphere threatening when sound engineer Jan Rosemann recently canceled a shoot in Göttingen's infamous “Horror House”. It was the first time in his 15 years as a technician that he decided against a job, and that's saying something. He reported his decision on TikTok and received a broad reaction: understanding from some, criticism from others. The reason for his withdrawal? It was fear for his safety that tipped the scales.
The shoot was initially planned as a portrait of the “Top 10 Rental Nomads” in the desolate house, but when Rosemann was booked by a cameraman the day before, little was known about the circumstances of the production. On the day of filming, it turned out that he not only had the reporter at his side, but also a security man who focused exclusively on the reporter. She had been attacked the day before in the “horror house” and had to be treated in hospital. This set alarm bells ringing for Rosemann, and he ultimately decided not to continue with the project.
Dangerous environment
It remained unclear whether the condition of the house, what Rosemann saw during his short time there, influenced his decision. But as he looked at the dilapidated house, he realized that he couldn't agree to the conditions. While he waited outside, he received frightening reports from his camera colleague who was exploring the inside of the house. This caused an immediate dispute between Rosemann and the cameraman.
In today's world, security concerns are no longer a new issue. Police crime statistics show that many people's sense of security is impaired, especially in urban areas. According to a current analysis, there was a slight decrease in overall crimes in 2024, but at the same time an increase in crimes that attack the population's sense of security. Compared to other regions such as North Rhine-Westphalia or Hamburg, where there is a high crime rate, it is quieter, but the fear of experiencing violence remains a constant companion.
Stay alert
The discussion about security and crime is more relevant than ever. Hospitals and other care facilities must not only meet the needs of the community, but also be equipped to remain resilient in crisis situations. You are required to create an environment that is safe for both patients and employees. Good management structures and a correspondingly well-planned infrastructure are essential in times of crisis.
Rosemann's experience in the horror house is another example of how important it is to recognize your own boundaries and insist on maintaining them. Even though working as a sound engineer is impressive, personal safety always comes first. So we can only hope that conditions will improve and that both technicians and reporters will be able to carry out their work without worry in the future.
