60 years of love in the mountains: Wolfratshausen couple celebrates anniversary!

A very special anniversary was celebrated in Wolfratshausen on September 3, 2025: Ingrid and Dr. Ekkehart Otto celebrated their diamond wedding. After more than 60 years of marriage, the two can look back on an eventful shared history that began in the mountains. What a love story!

The 86-year-old Ingrid comes from near Goslar in the Harz Mountains, while the 85-year-old Ekkehart is a native of Munich. They both value mountain sports very much and were active in different mountains: Ingrid with the young team of the Alpine Club and Ekkehart in the mountain rescue service. Their first meeting took place on tours together in Franconian Switzerland, but the decisive turning point came in 1963 when they had to spend the night at Lake Walchensee. The freezing temperatures and closed lake made them realize they belonged together.

A journey through life together

After their wedding in Kochel, the two started a family and are the proud parents of three children - two daughters and a son. They can also look forward to eight grandchildren. Dr. Ekkehart Otto took over a doctor's practice in Wolfratshausen 51 years ago, where he also had the mayor Klaus Heilinglechner as a patient. He didn't miss the opportunity to personally congratulate the couple on their diamond wedding.

Ingrid and Ekkehart have always attached great importance to a harmonious relationship. “The dishes are in the cupboard intact,” emphasizes the couple, and relies on conversations to resolve conflicts instead of arguments. This shows that they have a good knack for married life.

A big celebration is coming

The couple plans to celebrate their wedding anniversary in a quiet atmosphere, but a larger celebration with family is on the agenda in October. How many couples in Germany are lucky enough to celebrate a diamond wedding? According to a recent survey conducted in isteshaltbar.de was published, there were around 1,447 pairs in 2022.

It is all the more amazing that Ingrid and Ekkehart Otto were able to spend so many years full of love and affection together. Her story is an inspiration to many and shows that happiness and great love can often come together in the most unexpected moments. We warmly congratulate the happy couple on their impressive anniversary!

The years of loyalty and appreciation for each other are not only remarkable, but also a rarity in today's world. According to statistics, about a third of couples in Germany get married and reach this significant anniversary, but only a few manage to live happily together for so many decades. The Mercury reports that the couple never had any major arguments and developed a close bond over the years.
