The “Roses & Beets” project is a masterful interplay of high culture and the region’s down-to-earth traditions. The term was developed in 2009 together with students at the HAWK University of Applied Arts & Science. Roses symbolize something special, while turnips represent everyday rural life. Hildesheim, often referred to as the “City of the Rose”, is also known for the rose bush at the cathedral, which is over 1,000 years old, which further underlines its cultural roots.
Cultural abundance and support
The Culture & Home Network supports events that are not only creative but also interdisciplinary. From children's theater to art projects, there is plenty of opportunity for anyone who wants to contribute their ideas! Selected projects not only receive advertising support, but also valuable help in the form of infrastructure and event technology worth up to 500 euros.
But that's not all: the Hildesheimer Land cultural summer, which takes place from July to September, will be a highlight again in 2026 with around 40 events. This is part of the long-term strategy to strengthen rural cultural areas. We are working on a well-networked program that brings out the region's many cultural potentials.
Promoting rural culture
The funding is not just limited to the direct project. The “Aller.Land – shaping together. Strengthening structures.” program has been in existence since 2023, which serves to support cultural life in structurally weak rural regions. In the first half of 2025, 30 regions received awards for their innovative concepts. The program is intended to help realize ideas and strengthen local participation in cultural processes, as on the side of Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media can be read.
